Yesterday was the cruise, today is the kayak! We are a group of about 30 begginers going to kayak Milford Sound. The double Kayak are very good and very fast. I am going with a graphic designer guy from San Diego, CA. Today is very sunny and we start rawing along the shore. We can get a much closer look than with the boat and I enjoy it very much. Our guide suggest us to taste the water and it taste sweet with a little bit of salt. The reason? Because it's raining a lot, there is a few meter layer of sweet water on top of the sea water. That's the reason why diving is very interesting here: you can see the Black Coral at a depth of only 7m where usually it's at 130m! I wanted to go diving but I left my diving license at the Te Anau hostel with other stuff... so I choosed the kayak! After 1 hour paddling, we see some dolphins on the other side of the Sound, so we start to head to that direction. The problem is that our fast kayak are not as fast as the boats and not even as fast as the dolphins. So they are gone when we arrive on the other side. We are lucky: the wild dolphins are coming back and they play around us, even passing under our kayak! That's really amazing and I had rarelly got a so close look at wild dolphins. |
