After my memorable cruise my Wildlife Cruise, I decided to go to sea some penguins. They are not very far at about 15 minutes walk from Wellers Rock. I went a on the beach to walk and saw a sea-lion and some funny brids.
Then, I walked up the hill and was told that it's better to come back at about 4pm to see the pinguins. It's only 1pm and in the meantime I hitch hike am heading to the Head of the Pensinsula. I enter the Albatross Center and as I am a little hungry I take a look at the menu of the cafe and I see 'fish of the day'. I am dying for a frsh fish so I order it. Miammm, it taste so good, it's incredible!
There is an accessible beach below the Albatross Center and it's possible to approch seals. There are a few there making a show and I take dozens of pictures: they are so incredible!

The sun is showing up! That's a great day. I see a sign on the beach saying that the blue penguins are coming to this beach between sunset and dark and I decided to come back. It's time to go to see the Yellow Eyed Penguins. At about 5pm, they are slowly going out of the water after 12 hours of fishing. They way they get up is quite cool: first you can see them lying in the waves and the sea as they approach the beach and pop, they stand up and start to walk slowly to there huts.
Thanks to some camouflage, you can see them very close at about 3-4 meters.

I had a great time and now it's time to cathc a lift back to the Albatross Center to see the Blue Penguins which are smaller. At about 7.45pm, one blue penguin is coming up on the beach. Many people are gathered waiting for the blue penguins. It will be the only one for this night and I catch a lift for Dunedin with a friendly Canadian family - I am lucky: the mother is from France :-) |
