Today I am going to Puzzling World, Wanaka.
This eccentric attraction was created in 1973 by Stuart Landsborough and his wife. It has grown from a simple maze to an amazing 30mn to 1.30 hour 'Great maze' with bridges and towers.
In addition to the maze, there is a building with many optical illusions such as holograms, mirrors:
Plasma blue ball!
Parallel lines?
How many illusions can you see on this elephant picture?
Try to solve the following enigma. The following piece of aluminium was neither thinned not elongated. And no pieces were added. It was not a sphere or a cylinder. So how can it have this shape now?
I then enter the world unique 'Hall of Following Faces'. You stand at the middle of a larg circular room and many famous faces are following you!
I carry on to the 'Ames forced perspective room'. I read that this technique was used in 'Lords of the Rings' to create the illusion of small (hobbits) and tall people. The room looks normal yet people inside looks either very tall or very short!
I then enter the 'Illusion tilted room'. This room is tilted at 15 degrees. My brain didn't quit understood it and it was a lot of fun, playing the snooker, sitting on a moving chair and standing on the stairs.
Then, I return to the main hall which is called the Puzzling Cafe: it's full of puzzles you can try. I am proud to have succeed a few, other were quite challenging :-) Looking up to the ceiling, I saw many mirrors and it looks like a giant Kaleidoscope.
I went to the bathroom and there is a fun picture opportunity there:
I would recommend you to visit the Puzzling World. It's very popular and it will a lot of fun for both adults and children. |
