Waihi is located southernmost of the Coromandel Peninsula.

This is still western part of the Bay of Plenty and it's possible to drive to a very nice spot located on the opposite side of Mantakana Island.

We got a bit lost at Athenree.

Hopefully we made our way to Waihi and took the road on the right following the coast on a few miles. There is a feeling of the en dof the road: look at this pristine and secluded Orokawa Bay.

There is a short 5 mn walk from there to the top of the hill. The scenary from there is amazing: on the west the 9 km long sandy Waihi Beach.

North: the Pacific Ocean.

East: the western part of Mantakana Island.

We then drove to the end of Waihi Beach, to have a closer look.

Well, there is a surf school there.
