Today we are going on a cave-rafting adventure with WildWest Adventure.
The tour goes through the intriguing
dragon caves of Greymouth and lasts for approximately 5 hours, including
the transfer there and back to the cave.
The
water can get quite cold but with several layers of
wetsuit on, we turn out to be fine most of the time. Some
boots and helmets with lights attached to them are also provided to
facilitate the walk in the cave.

After a
30-minute warm-up walk through the forest, it's time for some
cave-rafting. The cave is amazing and its very nature implies that we
have to sometimes slide, crawl in, drift along or climb to keep on
moving deeper into the dark.

The
second and final section of the cave being half under water, we
are given some tubes to drift along and make our way to the end of
the cave. With our lights turned off, we are able to contemplate the
beautiful worm gloves in the dark of the cave.

The trip ends through the tunnel of love,
a narrow sometimes scary tunnel that leads to the exit of the cave.
Once back at the base, we finish off the tour in a hot spa with
some drinks and muffins while watching the photos of our trip on a TV
screen above our heads. What a life! |
