MacKenzie Alpine Horse Trekking offers free pick-ups from any accomodation
in Lake Tekapo which allowed us to be at their ranch in no time. Their ranch is
about a 5-minute drive from the town's centre and is located just outside Lake
Tekapo on Godley Peaks Rd.
Once on the site, our instructor Casey helps us with helmets and saddles
and introduces us to our personal horses, Rock and Yassa.

The weather today is absolutely gorgeous and we can be sure to observe some
unreal colours on the lake.

We go through larch and pine forest before getting an awesome scenery of
the lake and the mountains in the back.

Lake Tekapo offers one of the most
impressive sceneries that we've got to see in the South Island, not to say in
whole NZ. The lake indeed displays a characteristic milky turquoise water which
looks quite unreal. The whole thing is intensified by hills and snowcapped
mountains in the background which give the lanscape a unique look.

The water's
striking coat of blue is explained by the sediments present at the bottom of the
lake which are a result of various events caused by the melting of a glacier.
The sediments are responsible for the water's milky aspect and shiny colour.
For NZ$45, we had an absolutely great and relaxing time thanks to both the
friendly staff and the beauty of Lake Tekapo.
